For a great fit, get to know yourself! What's your body shape? Women come in four basic shapes! These shapes will describe most women's figures. Certain silhouettes look better on some figures than others. Nearly anything can flatter.....if it fits properly!
Triangle Visually narrower above the waist and wider below. Hips and/or thighs are probably full. (This is where the majority of women fall.) Rectangle Waist is somewhat undefined, similar to your upper and lower dimensions. Inverted Triangle Visually larger or wider above the waist and narrower below. Hips and/or thighs are more slender compared to upper dimensions. Hourglass Every woman's dream! Waist is noticeably smaller than bust and hips, which appear almost equal in their dimensions. What kind of fit do you like? Most women have a preference for their clothing fit -- fitted or loose, for example -- because they feel it looks best on them and / or it is what they are most comfortable wearing. Others go simply for style; fit and comfort may not be as important to them as being fashionable. But to truly find what looks best on you goes beyond that. It's an art to balance your proportions to your advantage. Below, we offer some fashion tips to help you! | **Vertical lines visually lengthen; horizontal lines broaden | | **Curving lines create visual tricks, i.e., Full curves make your figure rounder and give the illusion of greater weight | | **A scoop neck can make your bust appear fuller; a v-neck emphasizes the vertical -- great for a shapely figure but not for a thinner one; boat-necks broaden narrow shoulders and offset width in the hips | | **If you are shorter...vertical lines (single-breasted jackets and v-necks) have a lengthening effect...wear a single color to eliminate the horizontal line created by a top and bottom in different colors...wear higher heels with shorter skirts | | **If you are taller...vertical lines may over-emphasize your height so break the line with different colors of tops and bottoms...long, full skirts and long tunic jackets add a graceful sweep...accessorize dramatically with bold jewelry | | **If you are full-figured...draw the eye up and down not across by dressing in single colors and shapes to create a vertical line...drape soft, beautiful fabrics near your face to create a focal point...avoid weighty and clingy fabrics, choose smooth fabrics with a nice 'hand' such as tencel or wool gabardine...patterns and accessories should be proportionate to your size and height...avoid very high heels | | **If you are slender...slightly heavy and textured fabrics work well...able to wear a horizontal line (contrasting tops and bottoms)...large patterns will help fill you out a bit...scoop necks and large collars are flattering...small, delicate jewelry |
Caring for your clothes....so often, our favorite items are ruined and irreplaceable! Here are some tips to keep your clothes looking great.
~ Dry cleaning can be harsh on colors and fibers so do it as seldom as possible. If the garment is wrinkled but still clean and stain-free, have it pressed! ~ Allow items to air out on a hanger or valet before placing it in your closet. Revitalize (gently!) with a clothes brush. ~ Use shaped hangers rather than wire hangers. ~ To avoid crease marks in the shoulders, use padded hangers for both sheer blouses and heavy coats. ~ Use herbal sachets as a moth-repellant rather than mothballs; they are less harsh and have a pleasant fragrance. ~ To kill moths, store wool sweaters in the freezer. ~ Fold sweaters and loose knits to store to keep them from stretching and becoming misshapen; never hang them. ~ Do not store clothes in airtight containers. Avoid storing in basements (too moist) or attics (too hot). ~ Fold clothes between sheets of tissue to minimize wrinkles when traveling. ~ Use your washer's delicate cycle for all but the most soiled loads; it is much gentler on clothes. ~ Turn clothes inside out before washing (especially dark clothes); also, zip zippers to prevent snagging. |
